My Personal History
My first time stepping in Downtown
was with my mother. Going down there made me little scared because of the big
buildings and the crowd of people you would run into. Heart racing, thinking to
myself if I would be able to cross the big streets on time. To get rid of the
fear of being downtown, every time my mom would go down there, I would ask to
join along. Growing up, I began to make downtown my next home. It was like a
big playground but except for big kids. It was another place for me to get away
from home when I needed to. Once I was able to catch the bus by myself with my
friends to school and back, my friends and I would go downtown after school.
Everyday afterschool we would discover more and more of downtown. There it was,
we found our favorite spot, The Gallery. The Gallery would be a place where
many teens my age would come to promote parties, events, come to eat, and have
dance battles. But of course, eventually, the owners of The Gallery begun to
get tired of us teens longing around and not doing any shopping. Enforcing
curfew laws. Eventually people stopped going to The Gallery so me and my
friends decided to look for another spot down the city to hang out at. This is
when I actually felt apart of the crowd because my friends and I would walk around
looking for new places to hang out at. Downtown was the place for me to be, I
felt apart of the world and free.
Philadelphia History
January 5,1681, William Penn found
Pennsylvania and named it after his father in his honor of his death. In 1683,
Penn had public parks built in North America for the enjoyment of people. They
were built in the Northeastern, Southeastern, Northwestern, Southwestern and
Centre Squares of the city. Moving along a few years into 1698, February 12,
the first public school in Philadelphia was established on the east side of
Fourth Street below Chestnut Street. This school was forced with the laws that
every child goes to school everyday and on time and was taught and instructed
properly. In 1736, December 7th, the first union fire company was
established. Continuing throughout the years until 1899, many first things were
being created to build Philadelphia, PA, as a whole trying to bring together
something people would enjoy living in. All these years in downtown,
Philadelphia buildings either being built as new or getting rebuilt to make
downtown look better then before. In 1682, William Penn created LOVE Park in
the center of the city also know as the center of Williams Penn’s City of
Brotherly Love. This park brings many friends and family together to share many
moments. Sometime walking by this park you will see a married couple in their
grown and suite taking pictures happily for their special day. Downtown has so
many history. History from the anniversaries of celebrating Fourth of July,
having big concerts like “Made of America” and plenty more celebrations. The
love for Downtown Philadelphia comes from the big fans that live and love
Philly.
