She made so much food like Turkey,Chicken,Stuffing,Shrimp,Crab legs,Bake Macaroni,Rice and beans,Collar Greens, Rolls, and many more. Being in college almost starving myself to death with the horrible food they feed us here, I went home to making myself about three plates of my mom good cooking. I spent thanksgiving with my mother, two little sister, my mom cousin and her five kids and her mother. This year I didn't want to spend thanksgiving with my family as a whole including aunts, uncles, cousins and grandma's and grandpa's. Changed it up this year and enjoyed my time.

Everyone goes here to shop and it is convinet for everyone to get to. Buses from downtown, Philadelphia goes to the mall and the ride is only about 45 minutes. When people visit, this is the mall to go to if any mall you decide to go to.

Waiting for Toast

While waiting for toast, I watch over it to make sure they don't burn.

Local Sayings

In Philadelphia we have a lot of saying which are also our slang we use everyday.

"The block is hot"- The cops are coming

"5-0"- What we call the cops

"Po-po"-Another name for the cops

"Jawn"- doesn't have a meaning because this is described as an noun. meaning this could be a place, person or thing.

"You mad or nah"- used when someone seems upset

"nah"-no

"Dawg"- describing a person

"Yo"- peson

"Thot"- whore,slut,hoe

HELLO

A Simply "Hell"o can mean so much to a person. That "Hello" can go from making a persons day that wasn't so good to the best day ever. It wouldn't hurt so much to just say "Hello" to anyone you walk by every now and then.

Poverty in Philadelphia

Poverty In Philadelphia

In Philadelphia there are plenty of poverty. North, South, Southwest, and some parts of West Philly. Poverty in Philadelphia could be from living across or next to abandon houses, living in a neighborhood that has trash lying around, children running around not dressed well as other kids, or to the gas or electric-ion man coming to your house to h=shut off the water or lights. Specifically in North Philly; where I’m from, is considering what you would call poverty. In my neighborhood, there are drug dealers on corners making money, cops roaming around ready to catch someone in act, prostitutes going up to cars doing their jobs, kids running around not dressed in nice clothing, homeless/crack heads walking around asking for money. In my neighborhood, there is help needed and people are willing to help one another even if my neighborhood seem like the one where people may not be as nice or willing to help each other. North Philly also has many different hoods in it that are consider poverty. Some hoods like Richard Alien Projects, Allegheny, Huntington Park, The jungle, The Ave., Girard, Cecil Moore, and plenty more. All of these hoods deal with poverty and most likely every family is on food stamps. But of course, not every family is on food stamps. For example, my mom is not on food stamps because she makes too much money. But just because she makes too much money doesn't means her bills are paid on time or she has the money to give up when the rent date comes up. Many families are still struggling even if they do make a lot of money according to the government. That is why; of course I live in poverty. I'm actually proud to say that I live where I live because it has taught me a lot from wrong to right and it has taught me street smarts; that's a opportunity some people don't get to exercise because they may live in a more wealthy area.

Family Saying

"Closed mouths don't get fed on the boulevard"

In 2011, When the song Hustle Hard by Lil Wayne ft. Rick Ross, Young Jezzy, Yo Gotti, and Ace Hood came out my mom cought on to the song and decided to use the phrase " Closed mouths don't get fed on the boulevard" on me all the time. Being though it was funny of her using that phrase since it was a rap song for young teens and we lived neared a boulevard I never really paid mind to her everytime she would say it. One day she sat me down and told me the phrase again and told me her reasoning behind using that phrase on me all the time. Her reasoning for this was so if I wanted something to happen for myself, the only way to get what I want is to speak up. Going back to the phrase and thinking about where I'm from, there's alot of teens and homeless people on the boulevard hustling for what they want in positive and negatives ways. Til this day she still uses it on me when she notice I don't open my mouth for what I want.

Week 5(Rocky Statue)

The Rocky Statue
This status is located in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum.
This statue was put at the bottom of the art museum because they wanted to inspire people to make their way up the 72 steps into the museum. they believe if rocky could do it why not other people. This statue gives people the motivation to do so and it has brought more people to come visit the museum more often.

Week 3(Famous Parts of Philadelphia)

Some of the famous landmarks in Philadelphia, PA is Love Park, South Street, Geno's Cheesesteak's and Downtown. These are the few places where a lot of Philadelphia residents where go to shop, hang out, and eat out to have a good time. Philadelphia is very beautiful as you can see and is a nice place to take a vacation with family to come site seeing.

My Town-North Philly

I'm from Philadelphia, PA , North Philly really, born and raised. I lived in the hood all my life so I've seen the bad, good, and ugly. In my hood it's dangerous to walk the streets alone at night. Drug dealers at the corner of a Chinese store selling their products, if you know what I mean. This is what the streets have taught them life should be; grind to get what you want.  Prostitutes selling their bodies to make the money they owe their pimps instead of using the money to get out of the streets. This money help the pimps survive the streets and feed the mouths of their families. The work done in the streets is their 9 to 5 expect they work the night shift; where all the action goes on. Day by day I see these actions thinking to myself "Is this the life I have to live one day?" "Is this what the streets are teaching me to do as right?" Instead I wake up every morning knowing I have a dream to chase; Going to school and furthering my education to become something better then what the streets are showing me. Walking in these streets not only taught me the bad and ugly but it pointed out that life does not have to be like this. At night when I go to sleep at times the sound of a gun shot puts me to sleep instead of the cars roaming around at night. The screams of  mother yelling for help because her son or daughter just got shot. Minutes later cops come to late, the life of an innocent child just disappeared. Almost everyday this is the stuff that occurs in my hood, North Philly, also known as the "BADLANDS" .
